With Calafate Night Tour you can contemplate, with telescope, one of the cleanest skies in Argentina while visiting the Patagonian steppe at Estancia El Galpón del Glaciar. This estancia is located at 20 km from El Calafate on the way to Los Glaciares National Park and, due to its excellent location, it offers an ideal sky for stargazing. The excursion includes dinner and a tour of the estancia, stargazing, astrophotography and light painting, always accompanied by an experienced astronomer.
Calafate Night Tour is a different activity in which, accompanied by telescopes and an astronomer with more than 10 years of experience, you will learn the history of astronomy, how to read the sky, do night photography (astrophotography) and have fun doing light painting.
The tour begins when you are picked up from your hotel in El Calafate at 7:00 p.m. and head to the estancia where you will first visit the surroundings and learn about the history of the place and its customs and then enjoy dinner that includes starter, main course and dessert with drinks.
After dinner and before going out, there will be a short film projection to introduce you to astronomy and anticipate what you will enjoy in the next few minutes.
Then, you will go out to the Patagonian steppe for 2 hours for stargazing in open sky with telescope where an astronomer will explain about galaxies, nebulae and stars, reviewing the constellations and their mythology. The astronomer will guide you on how to look at the sky, use the telescope and teach you about the Milky Way, nebulae, stars, constellations, mythology, and more. You will also have fun doing astrophotography and light painting.
Finally, you will return to your hotel in El Calafate at 12:00 a.m. having enjoyed stargazing (astrotourism) in one of the ten best skies in the world for this activity.
