If you book the tour with transfer from El Calafate, you will be picked up at your hotel at 8:00 a.m. to then travel 220 km and arrive at 11:00 a.m. in Chalten, where you will be welcomed by the tour guides. If you book the tour without transfer from El Calafate, you must get to the operations base located in the city center of Chalten at 10:00 a.m.
After the welcome and explanation about the Chalten area, you will be provided the rafting equipment: thermal suit, dry suit, helmet, life jacket and neoprene boots. After practicing the technique of sculling and security movements, you will start the rafting.
The first part of the activity consists of 4 km on calm and meandering waters with views of Mount Fitz Roy on your back. It is an ideal area to make contact with the raft, the river and practice paddling techniques needed for what comes next.
The second part takes place over the canyon area. After the initial rapid, you will come across a series of fun and exciting rapids for 8 km. Here, the speed of the river makes the raft to move up and down in the purest waters.
For the end, you will descend through a 2 km area in calm waters. From rough waters to a quiet end.
At the end of the 2 hours rafting descent through River Las Vueltas, and back at the operating base in Chalten, you will have a complimentary snack. Those passengers who have booked the tour with transfer from El Calafate will return, arriving at 8:30 p.m. to the city.
