Glaciar Sur Pioneers is a tour that offers a visit to the Perito Moreno Glacier in a different way, combining two boat rides through the Rico Arm of Lake Argentino, the visit to Estancia Nibepo Aike where you will have Patagonian lamb for lunch, trekking through the forest in front of the Perito Moreno and the visit to the glacier balconies. It does not require physical effort and it is done in small groups, making it ideal for visiting the Perito Moreno Glacier in a unique way.
The tour starts at 9:30 a.m. when we pick you up at your hotel in El Calafate and undertake the old estancias road to Lake Roca, located within Los Glaciares National Park and at 60 km from El Calafate.
When you get to Estancia Nibepo Aike, you will take a walk around the estancia while the guide tells the history of the first settlers of the place. Then, you will participate in sheep shearing and herding activities, and there will be a demonstration of creole skill carried out by gauchos.
At noon, you will have lunch in the estancia: lamb barbecue with salad table, dessert and drinks included. After the relaxed lunch, you will travel 5 km by vehicle to the port from where you will embark in direction of Playa de las Monedas, crossing the Rico Arm of Lake Argentino, always with the view of the Perito Moreno Glacier. Upon reaching this beach, you will disembark and trek for 20 minutes in the Lengas forest until you get to a viewpoint from where you can see the southern face of the Perito Moreno. Later, you will embark again to sail in front of the southern wall of the glacier and enjoy a glass of whiskey or vodka distilled in El Calafate with ice from the glacier.
To finish the tour, you will disembark at port Bajo de las Sombras and, by vehicle, you will go to the balconies of the Perito Moreno to make a visit of approximately 2 hours.
You will return to El Calafate by the traditional asphalt route arriving at 7:00 p.m. to your hotel after having visited the southern area of Los Glaciares National Park and the Perito Moreno in a different way.
