The Mayo Spirit Trek is an excursion that combines trekking in Los Glaciares National Park with sailing through the Iceberg Channel of Lake Argentino and a visit to the Cerro Mayo and Cerro Negro glaciers and the Perito Moreno balconies. The only way to access this area from El Calafate is by boat as these glaciers are located within the Mayo Area of Lake Argentino. This tour is ideal for those who want to visit a little-explored area of ??the national park off the beaten track.
If you book the tour with transfer from El Calafate, we will pick you up from your hotel at 8:00 a.m. and take you to the Punta Bandera Port, where you will sail through the Iceberg Channel and enter the Mayo Area of Lake Argentino.
Once you arrive, you will disembark at Toro Bay. Accompanied by a specialized guide, you will begin a 15-minute, easy hike through the Patagonian Andean Forest to reach a stream fed by a waterfall. From there, you will observe an immense limestone rock formation while enjoying the scenery until you return to the boat that will take you to your next destination.
Departing from Toro Bay, the boat continues through the Mayo Area of Lake Argentino, from where you can see the hanging glaciers of Cerro Mayo and Cerro Negro. You will then disembark for a 25-minute trek, covering approximately 1,000 meters in the Patagonian Andean Forest. During the trek, you will follow a stream until you reach a rock wall from which you can observe the Mayo and Negro hanging glaciers while enjoying panoramic views of a wonderful Patagonian landscape that will leave you awestruck.
You will spend some time there, appreciating the Mayo and Blanco mountains, before returning to the boat that will take you to the north face of the Perito Moreno Glacier. Upon reaching the glacier, you will disembark at the dock located at the foot of the Perito Moreno balconies, from where you can explore them for 2 hours.
To conclude the tour, you will return to the boat, which will take you back to Puerto Bandera and then head to your hotel in El Calafate, arriving at 6:00 p.m. after having experienced sailing, trekking, and visiting the Mayo and Negro hanging glaciers.
