Estancia Alice - El Galpon is a place located on the way to the Perito Moreno Glacier and at 22 km from El Calafate. During the tour you will visit the estancia while enjoying sheep herding activities with Kelpie breed dogs, demonstration of sheep shearing, trekking and bird watching in Los Pajaros Lagoon. Dinner is also included in the quincho of the estancia.
The tour begins when you are picked up from your hotel in El Calafate at 4:30 p.m. and undertake the 22 km journey to the estancia. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed with hot chocolate, tea or coffee and traditional homemade products. After the snack, the first activity begins around the estancia which is the sheep herding carried out by gauchos on horseback and with the help of Kelpie dogs.
Then, you will take a guided walk in Los Pajaros Lagoon, which is located just in front of Estancia Alice and the shore of Lake Argentino, where you can interpret flora and fauna. It is a place with a large number of Patagonian birds.
After the walk through Los Pajaros Lagoon, you will visit the original shearing shed of the estancia from 1912 to participate in a sheep shearing demonstration and learn about this practice and the wool processing.
After the activities around the estancia, you will be welcomed at the quincho with the typical Patagonian lamb cooked on the grill. Dinner includes homemade empanadas for starter, Patagonian lamb for main course with chicken, sausages, etc. and salad buffet and homemade dessert.
After dinner, you will return to your hotel in El Calafate having visited a typical Patagonian estancia with history dating back to the early 20th century.
