Estancia 25 de Mayo is a half-day excursion that visits this typical Patagonian estancia located at just 3 km from the city center of El Calafate, highlighting its historical connection to the birth and growth of the city. The estancia covers 17,000 hectares of land stretching from the shores of Lake Argentino in the north to the Chilean border in the south. It's an ideal place to relax and enjoy the scenery at the foot of Cerro Calafate.
After being picked up from your hotel in El Calafate at 5:30 p.m., you will be welcomed at Estancia 25 de Mayo with fried cakes, mate and roadside coffee while you are told the history of the estancia, learn about the first settlers of El Calafate and how farming was carried out at the beginning of the 20th century. There will be a demonstration of sheep herding with dogs, a typical Patagonian activity.
After the talk and the sheep herding, the excursion continues with a walk around the estancia and along the Calafate Stream, while visiting the old shearing shed and corrals. There, there will be a demonstration of sheep shearing with scissors and a visit to the organic garden, which produces some of the vegetables used in the estancia's barbecue area.
After the tour of the estancia, you will be guided to "El Quincho" restaurant, where you will be served confit lamb, mountain wine and, finally, dinner which consists of a Creole empanada with an appetizer as a starter; grilled Patagonian lamb with chorizo, blood sausage, organic garden salads as a main course and a dessert of your choice. What sets Estancia 25 de Mayo apart from other tourist estancias is that after dinner, you will enjoy a folklore show and a tour of typical Argentine dances.
Around 10:30 p.m., the tour ends, and you will begin the return trip to your hotel after having enjoyed a beautiful day in the countryside rich in history, a traditional dinner and a traditional folklore show.
