This is the most complete tour to visit the Perito Moreno Glacier from El Calafate as it includes the ice trekking called Minitrekking, a short sailing in front of the south wall of the glacier and a visit to the balconies, always accompanied by a guide.
If you book the tour with transfer from El Calafate, it starts when we pick you up at your hotel and undertake the 78 km journey until reaching the Perito Moreno Glacier within Los Glaciares National Park. If you do not include the transfer, you must get to Port Bajo de las Sombras, located 7 km before arriving at the glacier, where you will embark to cross the Brazo Rico of Lake Argentino in a 20 minutes boat tour.
Once you cross the Brazo Rico of the lake, you will get to a shelter, where the guides organize groups of up to 20 people. From here a 15-minute walk through the Lenga forest begins. until you reach the glacier where you will put on the crampons necessary to walk on the ice and that will allow you not to slip. After warming movements, the Minitrekking begins and lasts approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes during which you can see cracks, seracs, sinks and small lagoons. The hike is of moderate difficulty and takes place on an irregular ice surface, but firm and safe. During the trekking, a glass of whiskey with ice from the Perito Moreno Glacier will be offered.
After the ice trekking, you will go back to the shelter hiking in the forest to embark again while you approach to the south wall of the glacier. Upon arriving at Port Bajo de las Sombras, you will be transported to the balconies located in the front of the glacier, from where you can have a different perspective of the landscape while you visit the famous balconies of the Perito Moreno. Finally, you undertake the journey back to the city of El Calafate after having visited and hiked on one of the most famous and unique glaciers in the world.
