This is the most complete tour to visit the Perito Moreno Glacier from El Calafate as it includes the ice trekking called Minitrekking, a short sailing in front of the south wall of the glacier and a visit to the balconies, always accompanied by a guide.
If you book the tour with transfer from El Calafate, it starts when we pick you up at your hotel and undertake the 78 km journey until reaching the Perito Moreno Glacier within Los Glaciares National Park. If you do not include the transfer, you must get to Port Bajo de las Sombras, located 7 km before arriving at the glacier, where you will embark to cross the Brazo Rico of Lake Argentino in a 20 minutes boat tour.
Once you cross the Brazo Rico of the lake, you will get to a refuge, where the guides organize groups of up to 20 people. From there, a walk along the shore of the lake begins, with the view of the Perito Moreno from the front and with the possibility of seeing iceslides, until reaching the glacier where you will put on the crampons necessary to walk on the ice and that will allow you not to slip. After warming up movements and a talk on glaciology, the Minitrekking begins, in which you can see cracks, seracs, sinks and small lagoons. The hike is of moderate difficulty and takes place on an irregular ice surface, but firm and safe. During the trekking, a glass of Calafate liquor with ice from the Perito Moreno Glacier will be offered.
After the ice trekking, you will return walking along a path in the forest to the refuge where you will be invited a hot drink and a souvenir will be delivered. Then, you will embark again and will approach to the south wall of the glacier. Upon arriving at Port Bajo de las Sombras, you will be transported to the balconies located in the front of the glacier, from where you can have a different perspective of the landscape while you visit the famous balconies of the Perito Moreno. Finally, you undertake the journey back to the city of El Calafate after having visited and hiked on one of the most famous and unique glaciers in the world.
No previous experience is required and anyone who meets the age limits, the requirements listed on the website and has a normal physical condition can make the tour.
