Description

The horse riding in Estancia Alice is a half-day tour in which you visit the surroundings of the famous Estancia Alice on horseback and enjoy a show of sheep herding with dogs. The estancia is located at 22 km from El Calafate in front of Lake Argentino and it is ideal to take advantage of a free afternoon in El Calafate for its short duration.

After arriving from El Calafate at Estancia Alice, the tour begins with a walk accompanied by a guide who will explain about the importance of wool in Patagonian estancias. Besides, there will be an explanation about the history of the Patagonian estancias in the area and the lifestyle of its inhabitants.

Then, you will visit the corrals of the estancia where you will see a sheep herding carried out by Kelpie dogs guided by gauchos on horse.

Next, you will saddle the horses in the stable of the estancia and begin a 45-minute ride with panoramic views of Lake Argentino and Los Pajaros Natural Reserve. You will cross the landscape of the Patagonian steppe which is formed by the typical shrubs and squat, such as the coiron, the black forest, neneo, gray forest, paramela, etc.

Upon reaching the Centinela River and its mouth at Lake Argentino, you return to Estancia Alice along the shore of the lake appreciating the imposing landscape of The Andes and floating icebergs that come from the Upsala Glacier. Finally, you return to your hotel in El Calafate.

The horse riding is done in small groups and includes a snack. The tour is aimed at beginners looking to enjoy a Patagonian landscape in a unique place.
